The Justice Department is investigating Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson's administration for potential discriminatory hiring practices. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon launched the probe following Johnson's comments highlighting the number of Black officials in his administration. Johnson defended his appointments, stating his aim is to represent all Chicagoans, including the Black community historically underserved. The mayor's office countered that the administration is the most diverse in city history, with a majority of white and Black employees. The investigation follows broader actions by the Justice Department targeting perceived political opponents.

Poland's presidential election runoff is shaping up to be a tight race between Rafał Trzaskowski and Andrzej Duda. Trzaskowski, despite pre-election polls favoring him, faces a challenging task in mobilizing his base and attracting voters from the left after the first round results. Analysts suggest he needs to quickly revamp his campaign strategy to address the concerns of left-leaning voters and those who abstained or voted for smaller parties. The outcome will significantly impact the ruling PiS party's future political prospects.

Former FBI Director James Comey's Instagram photo of shells arranged like numbers sparked controversy. The numbers, interpreted as '86' and '47' (referencing Trump as the 47th president), led to allegations of inciting Trump's assassination. Comey explained the image was unintentional, a playful discovery during a beach walk with his wife. Despite removing the post, the image prompted calls from the Secret Service and an interview. Comey, promoting his new crime novel, expressed bewilderment over the incident.

Romania's presidential election saw a pro-EU centrist, Nicusor Dan, defeat hard-right nationalist George Simion. Dan secured 53.6% of the vote, overcoming Simion's initial lead from the first round. The high voter turnout, including significant diaspora participation, contributed to Dan's victory. Despite Dan's win, deep societal divisions persist, stemming from corruption and inequality. His presidency will focus on reforms and maintaining Romania's strong ties with the EU and NATO, crucial given the geopolitical context.

Russia has outlawed Amnesty International, declaring it an "undesirable organization." This designation, under a 2015 law, criminalizes any involvement with the group. The move is part of a broader crackdown on dissent and critics of the Kremlin, intensifying since the Ukraine invasion. Amnesty International's secretary general, Agnès Callamard, vowed to continue documenting human rights violations despite the ban. The organization has been critical of Russia's human rights record, including its war in Ukraine and repression of activists.

A luxury Boeing 747, gifted to the US government by Qatar, awaits an overhaul in San Antonio to potentially become the next Air Force One for President Trump. The plane's arrival sparked ethical and security concerns. Experts warn that a quick retrofit could compromise national security due to insufficient time for installing crucial communication and defense systems. While the White House claims Trump is uninvolved, criticism from Congress, including Republican members, and concerns about potential risks to the President persist. Trump defends accepting the gift, highlighting cost savings.

Donald Trump alleges that the Kamala Harris presidential campaign illegally paid celebrities Oprah Winfrey, Beyoncé, and Bruce Springsteen for endorsements. The Harris campaign maintains that payments were for production services, not endorsements, and that all payments were properly disclosed. Winfrey and Beyoncé's mother have publicly denied receiving payments for endorsements. Campaign finance experts confirm that such payments are legal as long as properly disclosed, unlike Trump's assertions. Trump's campaign, in contrast, shows no record of paying performers at his rallies.

President Trump, after firing the Kennedy Center's board, installed loyalists and assumed the chairmanship. He aims to reshape the center's programming, deeming previous offerings "woke" and politically biased. This overhaul reflects Trump's broader effort to influence the national arts scene, including potential cuts to federal arts funding. The new board approved upcoming shows including "Chicago," "Moulin Rouge," and "Bluey," but previously cancelled LGBTQ+ events. Trump cited financial mismanagement and criticized past performances as reasons for the changes, leading to artist boycotts and understudies potentially filling in for planned performances.
