A fire that roared through a residential home in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood killed six people and injured seven others, including three firefighters, the New York City fire department said.
The blaze, reported in the early hours of Thursday, spread through a two‑storey house on 58th Street between 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue at about 1.40 am, and then to another home.
Hundreds of first responders worked to control the blaze, and it took about three hours to bring the fire under control.
A lithium‑ion battery, or possibly two, was found at the scene, but it was unknown if that was related to the cause of the fire.
New York City’s mayor, Zohran Mamdani, praised firefighters and first responders and said the city is investigating the cause.
