The UFC broadcast team was stunned when referee Dan Miragliotta stood up fighters in the second round of the UFC Vegas 123 main event. Renato Moicano had secured a body triangle on Tom Nolan, peppering punches while attempting a rear‑naked choke. Miragliotta abruptly intervened, removing Moicano from the dominant position. Nolan then scored a knockdown and finished the bout with ground and pound in the third round. UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier criticized the decision, calling it a referee error that cast a shadow over Nolan’s performance. Commentator Laura Sanko also expressed confusion, noting Moicano’s active grappling warranted no standup.
