Treasury Secretary Urges Zelenskyy Caution on Starlink Claims

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday to be careful when speaking publicly about U.S. support for Ukraine. Bessent cautioned that Zelenskyy’s assertion that the United States had slowed Starlink, the high‑speed satellite internet supplied by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, was reckless.
The president had said Ukraine was blocked from U.S. intelligence for a period and that Starshield‑linked vehicles and drones were still restricted in speed. Bessent noted that President Donald Trump and Secretary Marco Rubio had categorically denied any slowdown, and that the White House had ordered the technology restrictions. Musk himself said on X that U.S.
policy and the President ultimately decide Starshield limits, but Trump has denied responsibility for the slowdown. The warning came amid heightened scrutiny of U.S. aid to Ukraine and rising energy prices linked to the U.S. war with Iran.
