Android was originally built for phones, yet Google has persistently adapted it for larger screens. The latest effort, Googlebook laptops, aims to bridge the gap between ChromeOS and traditional desktop OSes by offering premium hardware and native Android app support. While the devices feel like a mix of a Chromebook and a giant phone, they promise a full desktop experience with touchscreens, aluminum bodies, and biometric unlock. Googlebook’s lineup includes models from Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo, and Dell, ranging from a $899 Acer model to a $1,100 Lenovo version with OLED displays and haptic trackpads. The Glowbar feature lights up during boot and when Gemini is activated, though it offers limited practical value. Despite the hardware polish, Googlebooks struggle to differentiate themselves from entrenched Windows and macOS ecosystems, leaving users uncertain whether the Android roots truly deliver a compelling desktop alternative.
