Tap title to read story
Joe Espada, former Houston Astros manager, is slated to interview Seattle Mariners for their vacant managerial position. After a decade with the Astros, Espada’s tenure included a World Series title in two thousand twenty‑two and two AL West championships.
He was promoted to manager in 2023 following Dusty Baker’s retirement and led Houston to a division title in 2024. The Astros released Espada in early August, a few weeks before his contract expired. Seattle, which relieved Dan Wilson of duties at season’s end, seeks fresh leadership and has expressed interest in hiring a manager with major‑league experience.
Espada’s experience and success make him a compelling candidate for the Mariners’ front office. The Mariners’ president of baseball operations, Jerry Dipoto, emphasized the need for new ideas and a shift in messaging. With Espada’s track record, the organization hopes to build on its recent playoff
