Prime Minister Andy Burnham hosted President Volodymyr Zelensky at Downing Street on Wednesday, pledging faster delivery of air‑defence missiles to Kyiv. Burnham also outlined plans for new sanctions against Russia and urged allies to pressure the International Monetary Fund to ban Russian liquefied natural gas.
He reiterated the UK’s commitment to Ukraine, stating the nation is with Ukraine "for as long as it takes" and that Russian aggression cannot succeed on our continent. The meeting followed President Donald Trump’s recent easing of sanctions on Russian diesel, a move criticised by Zelensky and UK officials.
Burnham’s visit marked the second time the leaders met since he entered office, after a July naval‑base conference in Portsmouth. The UK will accelerate delivery of Lightweight Multirole Missiles, having already committed to send more than five thousand pounds‑worth of LMMs worth £1.6 billion over the next four years.
