Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met British Prime Minister Andy Burnham for their first bilateral talks on Wednesday at Everton Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool. The leaders discussed international defense financing, artificial intelligence, and strategic cooperation before watching Everton face Wolverhampton in the League Cup. The unconventional setting highlighted their shared support for the football club. Both leaders also connected over personal losses, wearing Alzheimer Society lapel pins to honor fathers who died from the disease. Burnham welcomed Carney, noting the value of sharing common ground ahead of upcoming G7 summits. Carney previously adopted Everton during his tenure leading the Bank of England. The meeting served to solidify diplomatic relations between Canada and Britain through cultural rapport and shared personal experiences. Official discussions also touched on expanding Canadian involvement in the British-led Joint Expeditionary Force and developing joint technological initiatives.
