UK and US Sign Landmark Commercial Fusion Energy and AI Partnership at Global Summit

The United Kingdom and the United States signed two formal agreements at the Global Fusion Summit in London on September 14, 2026, to accelerate the commercialization of fusion energy. Under the first accord, a transatlantic supercomputing partnership was established between the UK Atomic Energy Authority and the United States Department of Energy's Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, integrating artificial intelligence and advanced computing into fusion research. Additionally, both governments signed a joint regulatory statement designed to attract international investment and streamline sector expansion. UK Energy Minister Michael Shanks noted that the initiative aims to support over 10,000 domestic green energy jobs by 2030. The agreements coincide with the release of the UK Fusion Investment Prospectus, which targets a global market estimated between three trillion and twelve trillion pounds. The pact builds upon previous bilateral nuclear cooperation frameworks and ongoing pilot plant developments.
