PUBLISHED Sep 11, 2026, 6:36 AM ET
Off-duty Secret Service agent John Spillman was arrested by Miami-Dade police at a Florida hotel following reports of erratic behavior in the lobby and hallways. Officers detained Spillman at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami Airport and Convention Center while he was dressed inappropriately. A subsequent search of his hotel room and personal luggage revealed multiple firearms, a taser, tactical vests, and official agency badges. Spillman was in Miami to provide security operations for a major golf tournament detail. Local law enforcement and federal prosecutors have continued reviewing evidence files and hotel security footage as legal proceedings advance. Representatives for the agency have not yet issued a detailed public statement regarding the administrative status of the detained employee following the local police booking record.
