Kenya’s quest to host Africa Recording Academy hub gets boost from Grammy organizers

The Recording Academy announced significant progress in Kenya's bid to host a regional African headquarters, following discussions between Academy President Panos A. Panay and Kenyan President William Ruto in Nairobi. Kenya has committed three point nine million dollars toward the initiative, competing alongside Nigeria and South Africa to secure the facility. Academy officials confirmed that key foundational milestones have been achieved, including the introduction of the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammy Awards and the rollout of the American Music Mentorship Program. As part of ongoing capacity-building efforts, selected Kenyan artists will travel to the United States next month to engage with international music industry executives. Panay emphasized that expanding the global footprint of African music requires a structured developmental approach focused on long-term institutional growth and representation. The initiative highlights the rising commercial and cultural influence of African genres within the worldwide entertainment sector.
