A.J. Brown Exits Patriots Debut with Ankle Injury
PUBLISHED Sep 9, 2026, 10:34 PM ET
New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown exited Wednesday night's season opener against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field after suffering a right ankle injury during the third quarter. The incident occurred on a third-and-4 play when quarterback Drake Maye targeted Brown, and Seahawks nickel cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett landed awkwardly on his lower leg while breaking up the pass. Brown walked off the field under his own power before entering the blue medical tent and subsequently heading to the locker room for X-rays. Team officials ruled him questionable to return. Before departing, Brown recorded three receptions for 26 yards and drew a 34-yard pass interference penalty that set up New England's opening touchdown. The Patriots acquired Brown in an offseason trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a first-round and fifth-round draft pick.
