Alcaraz Blindsided Live on ESPN by US Open Shock

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz experienced a live-broadcast shock during his post-match television interview following his fourth-round victory at the U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows in New York. Alcaraz defeated American Tommy Paul six-four, three-six, six-four on Arthur Ashe Stadium. Immediately after walking off the court, Alcaraz joined a live ESPN broadcast hosted by former champion Andy Roddick to evaluate his upcoming quarterfinal opponent. Alcaraz looked visibly confused, asked Roddick to repeat the question, and leaned across the desk to inspect notes. He stated live on air that he believed he was scheduled to play the winner of the Daniil Medvedev and Frances Tiafoe match. Roddick and the panel informed Alcaraz that eighth seed Ben Shelton had defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas six-two, six-three, six-four to secure the quarterfinal spot against him. Alcaraz entered the upcoming matchup holding a three-zero career head-to-head record against Shelton, with their previous meeting occurring at the French Open.
