Ken Paxton’s financial disclosures appear to violate federal ethics law, experts say

Texas Attorney General and United States Senate nominee Ken Paxton faces scrutiny after an investigative report revealed major errors and omissions in his federal financial disclosures. Published jointly by ProPublica and The Texas Tribune, the review indicates that Paxton reported owning seven properties across Texas, Florida, and Oklahoma while claiming zero rental income from any of them. Public records and tenant verifications showed that at least six of these properties were actively listed or occupied as rentals during the reporting period. Federal law mandates the reporting of real estate income and mortgages on non-primary residences. Paxton allegedly omitted three mortgages totaling 1.3 million dollars tied to Utah resort condominiums. Ethics experts state these disclosures obscure his true income streams and debt, hindering voter oversight. Paxton's campaign dismissed the findings, characterizing them as a politically motivated attempt to manufacture controversy ahead of the upcoming election cycle.
