Stan Kroenke Agrees to Buy LA Angels for Record $4 Billion
PUBLISHED Sep 1, 2026, 6:49 PM ET
Billionaire Stan Kroenke's Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) has reached a definitive agreement to acquire a controlling interest in the Los Angeles Angels from Arte Moreno for a record $4 billion. The transaction, subject to MLB approval, is expected to close in early 2027. The sale surpasses the previous MLB record of $3.9 billion set by the San Diego Padres sale earlier this year. Moreno, who purchased the franchise for $183.5 million in 2003, ends a 23-year tenure marked by an initial period of success followed by an 11-season playoff drought. The Angels are currently on pace for an 11th consecutive losing season. Kroenke, whose portfolio includes the Los Angeles Rams, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids, and Arsenal F.C., expressed excitement for the franchise's future, while Moreno praised KSE as the best next owner.
