San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch stated on Monday that nothing has changed regarding wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk remains on the left squad list and is not currently on the active roster. The update comes as Aiyuk was originally scheduled to receive an option bonus under his contract extension. Lynch confirmed that the organization does not owe Aiyuk any financial compensation because he defaulted on contract terms. The default wiped out significant guaranteed money and eliminated the option bonus entirely. Aiyuk was placed on the inactive list last December following a series of disagreements and missed rehabilitation sessions. He suffered a major knee injury during the previous NFL campaign and failed to meet team recovery requirements. To return to professional football, Aiyuk must formally apply for official league reinstatement through commissioner Roger Goodell. However, the wide receiver previously stated he has no intention of returning to San Francisco.
