Industry organizations, including the Meat Institute and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, raised concerns that bypassing established guidelines could jeopardize food safety standards. Meanwhile, agricultural economists questioned the initiative's market efficacy, noting that independent decentralized processing would account for minimal volume compared to national demand. The administration's proposal coincides with ongoing Department of Justice investigations into pricing practices and historical lows in livestock supply, as consumers continue to navigate elevated grocery costs.
