Tropical Storm Dolly Forms in Atlantic, Threatens Caribbean

Tropical Storm Dolly has formed over the central tropical Atlantic Ocean, becoming the fourth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. According to the National Hurricane Center, the system was centered approximately 1,240 nautical miles east of the Leeward Islands, packing maximum sustained winds of 35 knots with gusts up to 45 knots. The storm is currently moving westward at a rapid pace of 21 knots with a minimum central pressure of 1007 mb. Forecasters predict that the system will maintain a westward trajectory before encountering hostile environmental conditions that will cause it to weaken into an open tropical wave prior to reaching the Leeward Islands. Despite the expected dissipation into a tropical wave, heavy rainfall is forecasted to impact the northern Lesser Antilles, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola, creating potential risks for localized flash flooding in mountainous terrains through early next week.
