UEFA set to end threat of FIFA events boycott over Infantino’s failed World Cup investor plan

European soccer governing body UEFA is expected to formally withdraw its threat to boycott FIFA competitions following assurances regarding World Cup commercial plans. Delegates from UEFA's 55 member federations are meeting in Monaco ahead of the Champions League draw to resolve the dispute. The conflict escalated last month when FIFA President Gianni Infantino proposed "FIFA Forward Enterprise," a $20 billion subsidiary to manage global commercial rights, including the World Cup, with a 20% stake owned by private investors led by a New York fund. The proposal triggered a swift backlash from UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation, leading Infantino to drop the plan within four days. The resolution ensures that six European nations—France, Spain, England, Italy, Portugal, and host Poland—will participate without disruption in the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup beginning September 5. Despite dropping the proposal, Infantino faces political pressure ahead of FIFA’s March presidential election.
