Iran warns of military ship ban in Hormuz under potential deal with Oman and other Middle East news

Iran and Oman are negotiating a temporary maritime framework to manage traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, excluding all foreign military vessels from traversing the vital shipping corridor. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated on state television that commercial vessels entering the Persian Gulf would travel exclusively through Iranian territorial waters, while outbound traffic would share Iranian and Omani waters. The proposed arrangement requires formal discussions within 30 to 60 days to determine a permanent traffic scheme. The Strait of Hormuz remains severely disrupted nearly six months into the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. U.S. President Donald Trump publicly threatened military action against Oman if it facilitates the agreement, as Washington opposes restrictions on international naval transit. Meanwhile, military friction continues across the region, including targeted Israeli strikes in Gaza that test a fragile truce and ongoing Israeli expansion into West Bank settlements.
