Cincinnati Reds infielder and outfielder Michael Toglia will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery Tuesday after an MRI revealed a torn labrum, manager Terry Francona said Monday. Toglia injured the shoulder Friday while making a diving catch in left field against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. The 28-year-old initially remained optimistic about returning quickly after the dislocated shoulder was treated, but Monday’s MRI changed the outlook. Reds team orthopedist Dr. Tim Kremchek will perform the operation in Cincinnati, while Toglia is expected to rehabilitate in San Diego near family. Cincinnati placed him on the 10-day injured list Sunday and recalled utility player Ivan Johnson from Triple-A Louisville. Toglia made his Reds debut Aug. 11 after spending most of the season with Louisville, where he hit .273 with 22 homers and 65 RBIs in 97 games. He hit .115 in 10 Cincinnati games. His 2024 season with Colorado included 25 home runs.
