Astros and GM Dana Brown Mutually Agree to Part Ways Amid Playoff Race

PUBLISHED Aug 24, 2026, 1:22 PM ET

The Houston Astros and general manager Dana Brown mutually agreed to part ways Monday, ending his tenure during a tight American League West race. Brown, 59, had served as Houston’s general manager since January 2023, and his contract was scheduled to expire after the 2026 season. The Astros entered Monday 65-66 and tied with the Texas Rangers for first place, after going 3-6 during a nine-game homestand. The team said Brown’s responsibilities will be handled by assistant general managers Charles Cook, Gavin Dickey and Connor Huff, along with senior adviser Jeff Bagwell, while owner Jim Crane oversees baseball operations during the transition. Brown’s tenure included two AL West titles and a 2023 AL Championship Series appearance. His most prominent trades included the December 2024 deal sending three-time All-Star Kyle Tucker to the Chicago Cubs for Isaac Paredes, Hayden Wesneski and Cam Smith. The Astros have not announced a permanent replacement.
