Iran Strikes Amazon Data Center Used by U.S. Military

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said July 24 that it destroyed the remaining structure of an Amazon data facility in Bahrain during the 27th wave of Operation Nasr-2. The IRGC said the facility supported U.S. military intelligence, but Amazon, Bahrain and U.S. officials did not publicly confirm that claim. The announcement followed an IRGC statement on July 21 claiming cruise missiles destroyed Amazon’s central data infrastructure in Bahrain. Satellite imagery reviewed by Bloomberg later showed damage at two Amazon-associated facilities, supporting the broader claim that the sites were struck. AWS Bahrain had already experienced disruption after Iranian attacks in March, with Amazon advising customers to use other regions. July announcement followed earlier attacks on Gulf cloud infrastructure. The report incorrectly dates the 27th-wave strike to August 24. August 24 centers on a U.S. Treasury announcement of tougher Iran sanctions. No August 24 Amazon strike was located during the final search.
