FIFA announced severe disciplinary sanctions following a post-match altercation at the World Cup final. Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes received a ten-match international suspension and a $90,000 fine for his involvement in the incident. The confrontation ensued after Spain secured a 1-0 victory over Argentina in extra time. During the fracas, Paredes grasped Spain player Eric Garcia by the throat and wrestled Gavi to the ground. Additional penalties included a seven-match ban and $90,000 fine for Nahuel Molina, a one-match ban for Thiago Almada, and suspensions for coaching staff. Furthermore, the Argentinian Football Association incurred a $321,000 fine relating to a controversial banner displayed after the semi-final match against England, alongside stadium capacity restrictions for upcoming home fixtures. The Argentinian governing body stated an intention to appeal the disciplinary rulings through official channels.
