Actress Anne Hathaway has publicly addressed the decision of veteran co-star Julie Andrews not to return for the upcoming film The Princess Diaries 3. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hathaway stated that the production team made dedicated efforts to determine if Andrews would reprise her role as Queen Clarisse Renaldi. Hathaway confirmed that the team ultimately respects the legendary actress's choice to step away from the project. Andrews previously indicated in an interview with InStyle that she considers herself retired from the franchise and feels the sequel can progress without her character. Responding to the announcement, Hathaway expressed understanding and noted that Andrews deserves complete respect regarding personal career choices. Julie Andrews famously portrayed Queen Clarisse Renaldi alongside Hathaway's character, Mia Thermopolis, in the first two installments of the popular cinematic series. Production details and release schedules for the upcoming third film continue to develop as the studio moves forward with the cast.
