Air Force Major Detained Again After Calling for Trump’s Impeachment

PUBLISHED Aug 20, 2026, 9:03 AM ET

U.S. Air Force Maj. Jason Watson was ordered into pretrial confinement on August 18 amid an ongoing military investigation, days after he criticized President Donald Trump in a CNN interview. An Air Force spokesperson confirmed the confinement on August 19, saying probable cause supported allegations of “continued misconduct,” while stressing that Watson remained presumed innocent and had not been formally charged. Watson was previously arrested by Capitol Police on July 1 after appearing in uniform on the Capitol steps and calling for Trump and Vice President JD Vance to be impeached, convicted and removed. His attorney, Chris Mutimer, said Watson told his chain of command he would no longer wear his uniform and anticipated possible charges under Articles 88 and 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Mutimer suspected the CNN interview contributed to the detention, but that connection has not been independently established. The case remains under investigation.
