Federal authorities arrested an Albany woman accused of plotting an ISIS-inspired bombing of New York’s State Capitol, where she allegedly wanted to kill lawmakers, officials said Thursday. Jessica Bowie, 35, faces a federal charge of attempting to provide material support or resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization. According to a criminal complaint and FBI officials, Bowie allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS, sought help making an explosive, repeatedly surveyed the Capitol and acquired materials she believed could support an attack. Investigators said she communicated with multiple confidential sources, including one posing as an ISIS facilitator, during a monthlong investigation. She was arrested Wednesday, before any attack occurred. Authorities said there is no immediate threat. Governor Kathy Hochul thanked federal and state investigators and said security measures at the Capitol had been strengthened earlier this year. The allegations remain unproven, and the case will proceed in court in Albany, New York.
