Dehesa 7 Fire Triggers Mandatory Evacuations in San Diego County

PUBLISHED Aug 19, 2026, 7:53 PM ET

A rapid wildfire ignited in East County San Diego on Wednesday afternoon, forcing immediate mandatory evacuations and smoke advisories across multiple residential communities. Designated as the Dehesa Seven Fire, the blaze started near Dehesa Road and Red Gum Road around three in the afternoon, spreading rapidly through dry brush under extreme heat conditions. CAL FIRE reported the fire quickly burned initial acreage with a dangerous rate of spread, threatening local structures and prompting emergency responses. The San Diego County Sheriff issued evacuation orders for areas north of Dehesa Road, west of Tavern Road, and south of Alpine Heights Road. Officials established a temporary evacuation center at Viejas Casino in Alpine. Meanwhile, the Air Pollution Control District issued smoke advisories for Alpine, Lakeside, and El Cajon. Firefighting crews deployed ground personnel and aerial water drops to establish containment lines as crews battled active flames across regional brush lands during peak afternoon.
