U.S. health officials are tracking a sharp 2026 rise in domestically acquired cyclosporiasis, with 15,716 laboratory-confirmed cases reported since May 1, according to the CDC. The nationwide surveillance total covers cases in 47 states and is not evidence of one outbreak or one contaminated food. A separate FDA investigation has linked 9,481 illnesses in 17 states to iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico by Taylor Farms de Mexico, as of Aug. 13. The FDA says recalled lettuce has been removed from the market and its investigation remains ongoing. Taylor Farms voluntarily recalled the lettuce on July 17 after federal traceback work converged on its supply chain. Michigan has recorded the largest concentration of illness, including two deaths, according to state officials. Federal investigators continue examining additional clusters with unidentified sources. Health authorities expect totals to change because case investigations can take weeks and some infections are never tested or reported.
