President Donald Trump on Monday threatened military action against Oman if it interferes with U.S. efforts involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, according to remarks reported from a Fox News interview. Trump said, "If Oman gets in the way, we'll bomb the shit out of them." The comments came as a 60-day U.S.-Iran memorandum expired without a final agreement, while Iran and Oman continued discussions over maritime traffic through Hormuz. Oman has historically served as a diplomatic channel between Washington and Tehran. Senator Tim Kaine said he plans to introduce a war-powers resolution concerning possible U.S. military action against Oman when the Senate returns. The threat also coincided with renewed energy-market pressure, with Brent crude settling at $90.87 a barrel Monday, according to Reuters. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released Monday put Trump's approval at 33%, the lowest of his presidency. No evidence publicly indicates Trump ordered an attack on Oman.
