Taysom Hill Announces End Of Nine-Year Tenure With New Orleans Saints

New Orleans Saints versatile player Taysom Hill announced that he will not return to the franchise where he spent his first nine NFL seasons. Hill confirmed his departure through a social media statement but did not announce his retirement from professional football. Hill stated that he spent the offseason evaluating his options and concluded that returning to New Orleans is not part of his future plans. The announcement coincided with the opening of NFL training camps. Originally entering the league as an undrafted free-agent quarterback from BYU, Hill joined the Saints in 2017. The team utilized his athleticism across multiple roles, deploying him as a runner, receiver, tight end, and special teams contributor in addition to playing quarterback. Hill became the only player in the NFL's Super Bowl era to accumulate at least 1,000 career yards in passing, rushing, and receiving. Over his nine seasons in New Orleans, he recorded 2,554 rushing yards with 34 touchdowns, 2,426 passing yards with 12 touchdowns, and 1,034 receiving yards with 11 touchdowns. He also started nine games at quarterback during periods of injury, posting a 7-2 record in those starts. During the offseason, Hill sold his home in the New Orleans area and entered free agency in March without signing an extension. Following his public announcement, the Saints published a tribute video narrated by former quarterback Drew Brees, thanking Hill for his contributions to the organization. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis released a statement acknowledging Hill's impact, highlighting his intelligence, athletic ability, versatility, and leadership over nine seasons. Hill has not yet signed with a new team, and his future playing destination remains undetermined as the 2026 NFL season approaches.
