New York City faces dangerous flash flood threat

New York City and much of the Northeast are under a Flood Watch as a slow-moving storm system brings intense thunderstorms and potentially life-threatening flash flooding. The National Weather Service warns that many locations may see 2 to 5 inches of rain, with isolated cloudbursts producing 2 to 3 inches in an hour and up to 6 to 8 inches in parts of the Catskills. On Tuesday, hundreds of flights were canceled or delayed at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark airports. New York City Emergency Management issued a travel advisory through Wednesday morning and urged residents in basement apartments to prepare to move to higher ground.
