An interim deal to halt fighting broke down amid renewed clashes over control of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy shipments. Earlier this month, US operations that initially targeted Iran’s navy and coastal defenses shifted to deeper sites in southern and central Iran and near Tehran. Iran’s Health Ministry reports 3,434 deaths since the war began on February 28, including 55 in the latest escalation.
