Anthropic has commercially released Claude Opus 5, a flagship generative AI model that the San Francisco-based company says will become its new internal performance benchmark. Announced on Friday, July 25, 2026, after months of development and safety evaluations involving Silicon Valley partners and federal oversight bodies, Opus 5 is positioned as a high-frequency workhorse for professional, engineering, and analytical workflows. Anthropic reports that the model approaches the advanced reasoning capabilities of Claude Fable 5 while cutting inference costs by about 50 percent. Claude Opus 5 now serves as the default model for Claude Max and the top-tier option for Claude Pro subscribers.
