United States links lettuce to multistate Cyclospora outbreak

U.S. health regulators are maintaining that shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico is the source of a large Cyclospora outbreak in five Midwestern states, despite retracting a key positive lab test. On July 21, 2026, the Food and Drug Administration confirmed that an earlier laboratory finding of Cyclospora in a Taylor Farms sample was a false positive but said epidemiological evidence and traceback investigations still implicate the company’s central Mexico facilities. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report at least 1,644 confirmed illnesses and 94 hospitalizations linked to lettuce served at Taco Bell and sold at Walmart’s Marketside brand. A voluntary recall began July 20.
