South Carolina U.S. Representative Ralph Norman announced on Sunday, July 19, 2026, that he will run in the special Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by Senator Lindsey Graham’s death. Norman, a conservative member of the House Freedom Caucus, revealed his candidacy during an appearance on Fox News. Senator Graham died on July 11, 2026, at age 71 from an aortic dissection related to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, according to preliminary findings from the District of Columbia Medical Examiner. Governor Henry McMaster appointed Graham’s sister, Darline Graham, as interim senator, and former President Donald Trump publicly urged her to seek a full term.
