The incident stemmed from Balogun’s straight red card on July 1, 2026, against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Santa Clara, California. After Trump personally urged FIFA President Gianni Infantino to review the decision, FIFA placed Balogun on a one-year probation, allowing him to remain eligible.
