East St. Louis, Illinois. Illinois State Police said a weekend shooting spree across three locations in the city left five members of a single family dead and two others seriously injured. The shootings took place at a residence near 39th and Summit, at the Samuel Gompers Homes public housing project, and in Jones Park, authorities said. Investigators characterized the violence as a targeted attack against a single family. Two additional victims were transported to a hospital across the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri, with serious injuries, officials said. Illinois State Police and local law enforcement opened an active investigation into the shootings and are working to determine motive and sequence of events. Authorities have not released additional details.
