Argentina advanced to the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinals on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 extra-time win over Switzerland at a sold-out Kansas City Stadium. Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring in the 28th minute, finishing a precise pass from captain Lionel Messi, whose playmaking remained influential despite his World Cup scoring streak ending. Switzerland, appearing in a World Cup quarterfinal for the first time in 70 years, equalized in the 64th minute through Dan Ndoye. A straight red card to Breel Embolo in the 78th minute left Switzerland with 10 men before extra-time goals from Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez secured Argentina’s victory.
