United States – The U.S. Department of Commerce has officially eased export restrictions on advanced artificial intelligence semiconductors to the United Arab Emirates, effective immediately. A notice issued on Friday grants the UAE accelerated treatment under U.S. export control laws, allowing it to purchase cutting-edge AI chips, including high-end processors from Nvidia Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. The policy change removes the previous requirement for U.S. government licenses to supply these sensitive technologies to designated UAE government bodies and approved commercial entities, most notably the state-backed technology group G42. The Bureau of Industry and Security said it took the step after verifying the UAE’s efforts to safeguard American technology and its strategic alignment with U.S. interests in the region. Washington – The decision follows months of diplomatic engagement aimed at deepening technological cooperation between the two countries, as the UAE channels its sovereign wealth into building regional computing infrastructure and positioning itself as a hub for AI development. Under the revised rules, there are no explicit caps on the volume of advanced chips or sophisticated computing hardware that U.S. companies can now sell to eligible UAE entities. U.S. officials said the move is intended to facilitate larger and faster deliveries of AI hardware from American suppliers to the Middle East while maintaining oversight through stringent compliance frameworks. The shift is expected to influence the global AI supply chain by enabling U.S. tech firms to fulfill large-scale orders that previously faced restrictive export licensing reviews.
