Washington, D.C. – The committee’s action highlights mounting concern in Congress over the resilience of critical government communication networks that support real-time coordination among law enforcement and security partners. The cyberattack on HSIN is believed to have occurred between late May and early June 2026, with details of the breach emerging publicly in late June. According to individuals familiar with the matter, the threat actors targeted not only HSIN servers but also a collaborative SharePoint-based system used by partner agencies. The DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis is conducting a comprehensive damage assessment to determine the full scope of the intrusion into the platform, which serves thousands of approved federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international users for incident management and information sharing.
