Washington: Trump says Iran ceasefire over, talks continue

On July 10, 2026, President Donald Trump said the United States would continue negotiations with Iran but declared that the ceasefire between the two countries is over. His comments followed a week of heavy U.S.-Iran military exchanges that effectively collapsed a preliminary truce reached less than three weeks earlier. Posting on Truth Social, Trump wrote that Iran had requested continued talks but that Washington had made clear the ceasefire had ended. He later told the New York Post he had instructed the U.S. military to carry out massive retaliatory strikes if Iran successfully attempts to assassinate him. U.S. forces recently hit at least 170 targets in Iran.
