Pittsburgh emergency crews mounted a large hazardous materials response late Monday night after a semi‑truck overturned on the 62nd Street Bridge and spilled an estimated 150 to 200 gallons of concentrated lactic acid. The A. Duie Pyle tractor‑trailer, traveling southbound toward the city, struck a concrete barrier on the Sharpsburg side of the Senator Robert D. Fleming Bridge at about 9:30 p.m. on July 6, 2026, and flipped onto its side. Authorities shut the key commuter bridge for more than 15 hours while fire and hazmat teams worked to contain the corrosive chemical and prevent it from reaching the Allegheny River through the bridge’s drainage system.
