LOUP CITY, Neb. — On July 5, 2026 at approximately 9:56 a.m., emergency dispatch received a call reporting a crash between a pickup and a bicycle on Highway 58/92 near the south junction just outside Loup City. Responders found a bicyclist in the south ditch; the rider, Jan Markham, age 71, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital. Loup City officials confirmed on July 5 that Markham died at the hospital and next of kin were notified. The pickup driver was identified as 21-year-old Jacob Kuszak; the Nebraska State Patrol is assisting the Sherman County Sheriff's Office in an ongoing investigation, and no charges or citations have been reported as of this week.
