Daphne, Alabama. Former Tallahassee mayor and 2018 Democratic gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum was arrested on July 2 after Daphne police say they stopped his vehicle on U.S. Highway 98 for alleged erratic driving and observed a glass pipe; a subsequent probable-cause search recovered rolled marijuana cigarettes and three packages that police say tested positive for methamphetamine. He was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, booked into the Daphne City Jail and later transferred to the Baldwin County Correctional Facility, then released the following day; police statements and jail records were cited this week, and prosecutors have not yet published a charging timetable or court dates.
