Lansing, Mich. Democratic state Sen. Mallory McMorrow announced Sunday that she suspended her campaign for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. Gary Peters, posting on X to thank volunteers and staff after polling showed her support at 6% in a June 16 survey by Mitchell Research & Communications. Her departure leaves two Democrats, Congresswoman Haley Stevens and former public health official Abdul El-Sayed, vying for the nomination ahead of the Aug. 4 primary; Republicans have an uncontested Mike Rogers, who has received an endorsement from President Donald Trump, and the outcome will determine the parties' general-election nominees.
