Ashburn, Virginia — A July 4 house fire caused by improperly discarded fireworks burned through a garage and roof, displacing three residents and two dogs and causing an estimated $1.2 million in damage, Loudoun County officials said. Firefighters from Loudoun and Fairfax counties responded after 9:30 p.m., and smoke alarms allowed all occupants to evacuate safely. Virginia Beach crews contained a marsh brush fire after nearly three hours Saturday night, extinguishing a roughly 100-by-100-foot blaze by 1:27 a.m., with no injuries or property damage reported. In Maple Grove, Minnesota, a Saturday evening attached-garage fire spread into the attic; occupants escaped, no injuries were reported, and investigators do not currently consider the blaze suspicious.
