The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on Tuesday awarded more than $2 million to New York State to fund infrastructure upgrades at the Long Island State Veterans Home at Stony Brook University, a 350-bed facility serving veterans, spouses, widows and Gold Star parents. Katie Hobbs signed House Bill 4168 this week to expand property-tax relief for disabled veterans, letting 100% service-connected veterans avoid property taxes on primary residences and removing income and home-value caps starting tax year 2027; the law extends benefits to surviving spouses.
