States Expand Veterans Benefits, Tax Relief, Facility Upgrades

Stony Brook, New York. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on Tuesday awarded more than $2 million to New York State to fund infrastructure upgrades at the Long Island State Veterans Home at Stony Brook University, a 350-bed facility serving veterans, spouses, widows and Gold Star parents. The grant will fund improvements including bathroom exhaust system upgrades. Phoenix, Arizona. Gov. Katie Hobbs signed House Bill 4168 this week to expand property-tax relief for disabled veterans, letting 100% service-connected veterans avoid property taxes on primary residences and removing income and home-value caps starting tax year 2027; the law extends benefits to surviving spouses. In La Plata, Maryland, Charles County reported $1.2 million in disability benefits approvals and outlined expanded tax credits and homeless-veteran outreach on June 24.
