Boulder coach Deion Sanders declares himself cancer-free

Deion Sanders, head football coach at the University of Colorado and Pro Football Hall of Famer, says he is now cancer-free one year after undergoing radical bladder surgery. Speaking in Boulder in an interview with the Associated Press, Sanders, 58, described how a malignant bladder tumor was discovered during a routine checkup last spring and treated with robotic surgery at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Surgeons using the Intuitive Da Vinci system removed his bladder and rebuilt a new one from intestinal tissue. Sanders marked Men’s Health Awareness Month by publicly demonstrating the robotic technology and stressing the importance of early detection.
